Vol. 81. Edition 43                                                                                      April 26, 2006

Change-Over will be held on June 21 at 6 P.M

APRIL 26 MEETING:

We opened today’s meeting under blue skies and mild temperatures with the Pledge to the Flag, singing of “God Bless America” (with Donna Buckley back at the piano) and Ray Miller gave a very brief prayer.  It was noticed that David Roberts was very happy to have Donna back tickling the ivories, and playing in his key.

President Tom thanked those who assisted in getting our weekly meeting under way, specifically, Ray for his brevity, Joan Coleman, Jim Caldwell, Arvind, pinch hitting for Mary Reinoehl (50/50), Bob Myers pinch hitting for Arvind (set-up), Dave Roberts and Eric Faddis (pinch hitting for Lamont) as greeters.  He also welcomed back Donna and Bob Williamson.

There will be a new feature coming soon, called “A Rotary Minute. “  It is suppose to allow us a minute to say something about Rotary or something like that.  We will have a posted schedule as we do for other assignments.

Attempting to give us a taste of what to expect, President Tom began asking questions, i.e. “how many spokes are in the Rotary Wheel?”  As there is a Wheel in the “Four Way Test” banner hanging in the front of the room, everyone could see that there are six spokes.  President Tom insisted that there were only five.  Things have fallen apart before, but one must have been present to see the total loss of command of our fearless leader.  Perhaps King Tom might appear next week and do his best to repair the damage that was inflicted by President Tom.

President Tom trying to find the sixth spoke.

Only 9 more meetings and counting…

President Tom then told how Dick Booth just bought a new x-ray machine, which will allow a good view of his patient; they will no longer have to stand against a window with the sun shinning through…bada bing!

It was noted that seven Ambler Rotarians attended last week’s District Assembly at Montgomery Community College.

BOARD ACTION:

The Board of Directors had a short meeting after our luncheon and voted NOT to participate in the Monte Carlo Ball this coming year.  Pedro Geraldino and Ron Larson will head-up a committee to research and recommend an additional fund raising activity to replace the Ball.  If you would like to work with Pedro and Ron, let them know.  If you have a great idea for a fund raiser (good money maker and low maintenance), let them know

COMMUNITY IN CELEBRATION:

  • Dick Booth, parting with a dollar, also thanked Ray Miller for including our military personnel in his prayer and suggested that we all wear something red each and every Friday as a way to recognize those that are serving in our military.
  • Donna Buckley placed $1 in the sculpture as a welcome back to Bob Williamson.
  • Joan Coleman chipped in $1 to recognize 36 musicians from Methacton High School whom she and her husband, Earl, recently chaperoned for a competition in Virginia Beach, VA.  She noted that Bill McAuliffe’s grandson won a first place in the competition.

PROGRAM:

Garrett Rice, after a slow start, (failure of the Audio Visual equipment) made a quick recovery and crossed the finish line in top form while telling us about the Special Olympics, Pennsylvania, Montgomery County.  Garrett used “The Mission of Special Olympics” as his basic outline.

“The Mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.”

50-50: the winner with the white tee and $12 was Jim Reis, who left early and entrusted his tickets to Dr. J. R., a.k.a. Dick Booth.
