Vol. 81. Edition 32                                                                          February 8, 2005

As our esteemed Senior Editor-in-Chief, George B. Ditter missed but another weekly meeting (he must have one heck of a trial going), today’s newsletter is being reported by a rookie-in-training.

FEBRUARY 8 MEETING.  The meeting was opened by the Pledge to the Flag, a strong rendition of “America” and a prayer by Steve Bass.  President Tom thanked all who volunteered today by selling tickets, taking attendance, selling 50/50 tickets, setting-up (thanks, Woody, even though you are in Florida).

President Tom is running thin on jokes.   Bob King should have been present to ring the King’s bell.  The “Toot and Tell” joke fell flat as groans filled the room, then the doctor with the 90 year old patient, and the 50 year old shop-lifter didn’t fair much better.  One suggestion heard was that President Tom needs to go to the Atlantic Book Warehouse to buy a new joke book.

COMMUNITY IN CELEBRATION.

  • Marsha Stranges made a valiant plea for the importance of getting regular colonoscopy examinations, as she was recently diagnosed with colon cancer.  Her surgery will be later this month and she will join a long list of Ambler Rotarians who ARE cancer survivors.
  • Eric Faddis reported that the “Body Worlds” exhibit at the Franklin Institute is well worth the time and small entrance fee.  Reservations are required and tickets may be purchased over the internet at www.fi.edu .

  • Walt West, back from a month’s stay in southern California, reported that he and Joanne were responsible for rain at this year’s Rose Bowl Parade.  They were there and it rained for the first time in 51 years.  Do the math…

ANNOUNCEMENTS.

  • The Rotary Club of Allentown West will be holding their Thirteenth Annual Charity Auction on Friday March 31, 2006 at the Fogelsville Auction Center.  Further information may be found by clicking on the link at the top of the newsletter, “Rotary District 7430”, then “Club Events” on the left hand column.

  • Although her Grace Landis was AWOL, President Tom reminded us that our winter social will be held on March 16th.

  • Walt West was to announce that our annual Grand Club ticket sales will be kicking off within the next couple weeks.  This event raises $7,000, so let’s each commit to selling or buying 10 tickets.  Joe Schneider will account for the remaining tickets.

  • George Carey wanted to remind everyone (although he was too cheap to place a buck in the Mayan sculpture) that you may send a “Singing Valentine” to that special someone.  Call the NorthPensmen Barbershop Chorus for a Quartet to deliver a special message for you.  Call 215-393-1940.
