Vol. 81. Edition 31                                                                          February 1, 2005

FEBRUARY 1ST.  MEETING.  The meeting ran smoothly until President Tom called on Mark Waltz for the invocation.  The only problem was that Mark and Kay are in Florida and Mark couldn’t hear Tom.  Thankfully, Ron Larson graciously stepped forward to fill in.

We had one visiting Rotarian, Ann Dunnington from the Springfield club and one member; Steve Pribis had a guest, Fran McKenna (duck salesman).

President Tom thanked everyone involved in today meeting for their effort in collecting money, selling tickets, set up, playing the piano and greeting us upon our arrival.  Missing in the mix was that President Tom neglected to thank the attendance taker.  No big deal, Mr. President.

Joke time with King Tom included a joke about a 65 year old woman who had a baby, explaining that Rotary means charity by illustrating the action of two unnamed members and Catholic Social worker.  Bob King finally had to step up and ring the King’s bell.  Looks like Bob might want his old job back.

Announcements from President Tom included:

  • Tom Elaine Hubing’s husband, Bill is in the hospital with pneumonia.
  • A letter was received from District 7430 Governor, Whitcomb, announcing that Bill Weber from the Allentown West Club has been nominated as the 2008-2009 District Governor Nominee.  If you are interested in challenging Bill Weber, see President Tom to begin the paperwork.  Yea, like that will happen…
  • Chuck Dager believes WE as a club should become more involved in District activities and committees.
  • We received thank you letters from St. Mary’s Villa – for our donation of $168 to help buy sweat suits for Christmas and a letter from District Governor Whitcomb thanking us for our $1,200 donation to support the up coming Rotaplast trip to Venezuela.
  • Next week we will be inducting two members, Gene McGonagle and Susan Regan.
  • President Tom is still looking for two good Rotarians to fill-in for Liz Ketterlinus.  Step forward and do yourself proud.

WINTER SOCIAL.   Her ‘Grace” Landis reminded us that our winter social will be held on March 16th with dinner at The Shanachie (a la carte), followed by an evening at Playhouse II to see “Syncopation.” Only 12 tickets remain.

COMMUNITY IN CELEBRATION,

  • John Snyder deposited $5 in memory of his friends son who died at age 35 and his friend with Xerox who donated service to the Children’s Literacy program.
  • Dick Booth parted with a $1 for the choice of songs today, “God Bless America.”
  • George Carey donated $1 for some singing program and
  • Ron Larson donated $1 – let’s just leave it at that.

PROGRAM. today was Jay Jablokov’s cousin, Andre, who is also a member of the Horsham Rotary Club.  He spoke about his business; helping people improve their memory and reading skills.  He spoke about memory techniques, advanced reading strategies , his method of “photo” reading where one is able to increase reading skills by 3-10 times with better comprehension  and finally about mind  and knowledge mapping.
