SEPTEMBER 1st MEETING:

·       President Maria opened today’s meeting by asking us to silence our cell phones.  She then asked us to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and we sang “America the Beautiful. “Pat McGee asked the Almighty to look down on our group and help us do the right thing.

·       President Maria gave thanks for all who assisted in today’s meeting.

·       Treasurer, Leslie K. Heffernen sends her thanks all who sent in your annual dues.  If you have not done so, please send your check for $145.00 payable to Rotary Club of Ambler send it to Leslie at P.O. Box 773, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.

·       The ever shy Bob King gave a great big Ambler Rotary “thank you” to Arvind and Hemlata Bhakta for their hospitality last week.  If you missed the picnic, you really missed a wonderful evening.

Dates to Remember

·         Paula Kadel invited us to attend KenCrest’s “Flavor of the Community” at the Blue Bell Country Club on September 13th.  Proceeds benefit KenCrest services for people with intellectual disabilities and autism.  Please see Paula for further information.

·         President Maria has three volunteers to be guest bartenders on September 22nd beginning at 5:30 P.M.at the Shanachie Irish Pub and Restaurant in Ambler. This helps raise money and recruit new members. 

·         The District Leadership Institute will be held on September 25th.  Those in a leadership position in our club are urged to attend.  See President Maria for further information.

·         The Ambler Oktoberfest will be held on October 2nd with the 3rd being the rain date.  We will be setting up and displaying a ShelterBox.  Elaine Hubing passed around a signup sheet asking for at least 2 hours from each member.

·         The District 7430 Golf Outing will be held on October 18th at Silver Creek GC in Hellertown.  President Maria has donated the trophies for this event.  See Tom Murphy to register.

·         The District Foundation Workshop will be held on October 23rd at the Best Western in Towamencin.  See President Maria if you are interested in attending.

·         Rotary International U.N. Day will be held on Nov.6th.  Because there will be limited seating this year (700 people), reservations are required.  You may register on-line at www.rotary.org.

VISITORS / GUESTS:

·         John Richter was a guest of Eric Faddis.

·         Paul Kelly was a guest of Bruce Braunewell.

·         Josh Bowman, who won a Shoemaker Scholarship, was a guest of the Club.

COMMUNITY IN CELEBRATION (HAPPY DOLLARS):

·        Karyn Koerwer was thankful that she is no longer a “guest.”

·        Maria Kim was so grateful to be back at a regular weekly meeting after her amazing Rotaplast trip to Colombia.  Maria will be our speaker next week along with her PowerPoint presentation.  Jim Kline, chair of t he Membership Committee asked that we bring guests to next week’s meeting to hear Maria’s presentation.  What a wonderful opportunity to show our guests what Rotary is and how we serve throughout the world.

THE ROTARIAN MAGAZINE: 

Seeing how today is September 1st; Dr. Jack Gomberg gave an impressive (brief – wink, wink) overview of two featured articles in the August Rotarian.  If you have not done so by now, read R.I. President Klinginsmith’s letter and the featured article.

SHOEMAKER SCHOLARSHIP WINNER:

Josh Bowman, winner of a $7,000 Shoemaker Scholarship came to thank our club for our support.  Josh will be heading to Stanford University and will be looking to team up with a local Rotaract Club.

PROGRAM: 

   

Thomas M. Dalton, CPA, MST, Tax Principal at Larson Allen gave an individual tax update.  Unlike the younger generation, Tom used the old fashioned flip chart to show some of the major changes that may or may not be coming our way.  Tom always does an outstanding job.

THE GRAND CLUB:  We had the seventh of ten weekly drawings.

50-50:

Scott Stimson was the winner of $14 and a white tee.  There were 49 white tees and 1 red tee.  Next week’s jackpot will begin at $134.
