COMMUNITY IN CELEBRATION (HAPPY DOLLARS):
· Pat McGee was happy to be in attendance today as he missed last week. Pat said that there are so many good people here. Does that mean that there weren’t good people where he was? Hmm!
· Visiting Rotarian, Robert Walton contributed $5 as he is on his way to Bermuda for a Rotary Leadership Institute (he knew that Maria was going to ask him to buy some Grand Club Tickets).
· President Maria will be MIA for the next two weeks as she will be in Colombia assisting in our District Rotaplast Mission. Can’t wait until September 8th to hear all about it, Maria.
CAMP NEIDIG:
Mark Mandel from Upper Dublin High School made a short presentation of his four days at Camp Neidig during the Father’s Day weekend. Mark was not sure what to expect, but returned as a “new and better” person. One important lesson Mark learned is that a leader has to know how to follow.
Mark Mandel is pictured with Camp Neidig Co-Chairs, Dr. Graham Parkinson and Dr. Jack Gomberg.
AUGUST BIRTHDAYS:
President Maria and soon to be member Karyn Koerwer were the only two to come forward to be honored
PROGRAM:
Cancer survivor Diane Swartz and Kelly Harris
Today we were honored to have Kelly Harris, VP of Programs and Funds Development for Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley in Warminster and cancer survivor Diane Swartz as our speakers. Diane told of her story and what Gilda’s Club has meant to her.
Gilda’s Club was founded in 1995 by Gene Wilder and others to honor Gene’s late wife, Gilda Radnor who died in 1989 of Ovarian Cancer. Your reporter read her book, “It’s Always Something,” which tells of her battle, not only with cancer, but with medical professionals who kept insisting that there was nothing wrong with her and that she really needed to seek psychological counseling.
Gilda’s Club mission is to create welcoming communities of free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, teens and children – along with their families and friends. Their innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities.
Completely free of charge and a nonprofit, Gilda’s Club offers a non-residential, homelike setting. If you a family member or a friend has cancer, please explore their website: www.gildaclubdelval.org for further information and programs. Speaking of programs Gilda’s Club is sponsoring a fundraiser on October 9th, “12 Paws for Life Dog Walk.” Donations of $25 allow you to have one dog and up to 25 people per leash. The walk will be at the Warminster Community Park.

STILL MORE OF – YOU THINK ENGLISH IS EASY?:
· I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
· How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?
· English muffins weren’t invented in England or French Fries in France.
· Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.
· Quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
· There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger.
· There is neither apple nor pine in a pineapple
