PROGRAM:

Kristen E. Lowe, Development Associate, Liberty USO Airport Center and Willow Grove JRB was our speaker today.

Kristen explained the makeup of the USO; each unit is an independent franchise responsible for their own funding and programs.  She also outlined some of the current programs and needs of the USO.  If you would like to volunteer your services, money or supply some of their needs, contact Kristen at 215-694-5559 or visit their web site:  www.libertyuso.org to learn about their current activities and volunteer opportunities.  The following comes directly from that web site.

For more than six decades, the United Service Organizations (USO) of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey, Inc. or “Liberty USO,” has served the needs of America’s active duty, National Guard and reserve military personnel and their families throughout Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.  Liberty USO is a chartered affiliate of World USO, a congressionally chartered, nonprofit organization and not a government agency. Liberty USO is supported solely through voluntary contributions and receives no government funding.

The USO’s Mission worldwide is to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families worldwide and to create a cooperative relationship between U.S. military communities and involved or supporting civilian communities.

During 2009, Liberty USO served more than 194,000 service personnel (active duty, guard and reserve) and their families.  At Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the USO provided meals for demobilizing flights and deploying soldiers and a variety of other services for spouses and children seeing their loved ones off for service overseas and around the country.  Services include all types of recreational, entertainment and morale – boosting activities.

THOUGHTS FOR THOSE WHO TAKE LIFE TOO SERIOUSLY – THE END:

·         What happens if you get half scared to death twice?

·         I used to have an open mind but my brains keep falling out.

·         I couldn’t repair your brakes so I made your horn louder.

·         Why do psychics have to ask you for your name?

·         Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened!

·         Just remember, if the world didn’t suck, we would all fall off.

·         Light travels faster than sound.  That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
